Mantis Shrimp tend to live in burrows made of sand, rocks, or coral. They are mainly found in shallow tropical and sub-tropical waters. They stick to depths of around 130 feet. Many of their burrows can be found in coral reefs

Coral reefs are filled with marine biodiversity. They create a ton of species diversity. This allows to mantis shrimp to be able to hunt as much as it likes. Despite spending most of their time in their dens, they are still extremely territorial, so they spend time interacting with other species in the reefs and often fight for territory.

Mantis shrimp are a good indicator of when conditions are poor. They are very sensitive to environmental pollutants, and as such are unable to survive in highly polluted places. The sudden loss of a population of mantis shrimp could tell a lot about the conditions they are in.
